The Book of Revelation identifies the "7 Spirits" as equivalent to the Lamb's "7 eyes, which are sent out into all the earth" (Revelation 5:6). These eyes represent the Holy Spirit—a 7-branched channel of God's communication. This imagery reveals Christ not just as a Savior, but as the Living Stone upon which we are built.
Christ the Stone
Why is Christ a stone? He is the stone the builders rejected, which has become the head of the corner (Matthew 21:42). As the redeeming Lamb, Christ has 7 watching and observing eyes for carrying out God’s administration. These eyes are not merely for watching us, but for "transfusing" His nature into ours. As we come to Him and are seen by Him, we are transformed into His image.
The 7 Gifts of the Spirit
Isaiah 11:2 specifies the sevenfold perfection of the Holy Spirit that rests upon Jesus:
- Spirit of Wisdom: Choice of the best means to secure the best ends.
- Spirit of Understanding: Judgment by which we distinguish things.
- Spirit of Counsel: Qualification as a guide and advisor.
- Spirit of Might: Strength of heart and purpose.
- Spirit of Knowledge: Of the attributes and plans of God.
- Spirit of the Fear of the Lord: Reverence for divine commands.
This paradox encourages us to seek not just knowledge, but a deeper relationship with the Creator. We cannot gain godly wisdom outside of life in Jesus. He is our means of wisdom through His saving work and the giving of His Holy Spirit. Today, Christ’s eyes are upon us so that we can be transformed and conformed to His image for God’s building.
- Christ "saves us not to bring us to heaven but to transform us." How does this change your understanding of salvation?
- Reflect on the "7 eyes" transfusing Christ's nature into you. Are you spending time being "seen by Him" daily?
